Comfortable Tooth Extractions, Personalized Care
Removing a tooth is never our first choice. Our team always looks for ways to save a natural tooth before recommending an extraction. But there are situations where keeping a tooth in place does more harm than good, and in those cases, a timely, well-executed extraction is genuinely the best thing we can do for a patient's long-term oral health.
At West McKinney Dental & Orthodontics, extractions are performed with care, precision, and a strong focus on patient comfort. We make sure you understand exactly what is happening and why, keep you comfortable throughout the procedure, and set you up for a smooth recovery before you ever leave our office.
If you have been told you need an extraction or have a tooth that has been causing problems, we are here to help.

Wisdom Tooth Extractions
Wisdom teeth are the third molars that typically emerge between the ages of 17 and 25 and are the most commonly extracted teeth in dentistry. For many patients, there simply is not enough room in the jaw to accommodate them properly, which leads to a range of problems that tend to get worse the longer they are left unaddressed.
Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out. Some people have enough room and the teeth erupt fully and cleanly without causing any issues. Our team evaluates wisdom tooth development through clinical exams and X-rays and will only recommend extraction when there is a clear clinical reason to do so.

What Comes Next After Replacing the Tooth
For most adult patients, extracting a tooth is not the end of the process. It is the beginning of a conversation about replacement. Leaving a gap where a permanent tooth was removed can have real consequences over time, including neighboring teeth shifting into the open space, bone loss in the jaw at the extraction site, bite changes, and difficulty chewing.
Our team will discuss tooth replacement options with you as part of the treatment planning process. Common options include dental implants, implant-supported crowns, bridges, and partial dentures, depending on the location of the tooth, the condition of the surrounding bone, and your personal goals and budget.
We want to make sure you have a clear picture of the full path forward, not just the extraction itself.
