When It Cannot Wait, We Are Here
A dental emergency does not arrive on a convenient schedule. It happens on a weekend morning, the night before an important meeting, or on a day when you already have everything else going on. And when it does, the last thing you want to hear is that the earliest available appointment is three weeks out.
At West McKinney Dental & Orthodontics, we make it a priority to see patients experiencing dental emergencies as quickly as possible. Our team understands that dental pain is real, that infections can progress rapidly, and that a broken or knocked-out tooth has a narrow window for the best possible outcome. We take every call seriously and do everything we can to get you the care you need without delay.
If you are experiencing a dental emergency right now, do not wait. Call our office at 972-542-4141. Our team will assess your situation over the phone, give you immediate guidance on what to do, and get you scheduled as soon as possible.

What Counts as a Dental Emergency
- Severe or persistent tooth pain – Throbbing pain, pain that spreads to the jaw or ear, or discomfort that does not improve may signal infection or deep decay.
- Dental abscess or infection – Swelling, severe pain, fever, or a bump on the gums may indicate an infection that needs immediate care.
- Broken or fractured tooth – Cracks, chips, or breaks should be evaluated quickly, especially if pain or nerve exposure is involved.
- Knocked-out tooth – A permanent tooth that has been knocked out requires immediate treatment for the best chance of saving it.
- Lost or broken filling or crown – An exposed tooth can become sensitive or damaged and should be treated promptly.
- Broken orthodontic appliance – Loose brackets, poking wires, or damaged aligners should be addressed to prevent discomfort or treatment delays.

Preventing Dental Emergencies
Not every dental emergency can be anticipated or avoided. Accidents happen, and infections can develop despite good home care. But many common emergencies are the result of conditions that could have been detected and addressed at an earlier stage during a routine exam.
Routine dental visits are the most effective means of preventing dental emergencies. At every checkup, our team evaluates the teeth for cracks, failing restorations, early signs of infection, and other developing issues that, left undetected, often become painful, urgent problems down the road. A small cavity found at a routine exam becomes a filling. That same cavity left for another year or two becomes a root canal, an abscess, or an extraction.
If you have been putting off your routine dental care, getting back on track is one of the most meaningful things you can do for your long-term oral health and for reducing the likelihood of finding yourself in a dental emergency unexpectedly.
